 Chapter -1

Reproduction in Organisms /-

Birth <--  Life span --  Natural death of an organisms.
  • No individual is immortal except single called organisms.
Life span of important organisms /-

  • Butterfly -- 1 to 2 weeks
  • Fruit fly -- 30 days
  • Banana tree -- 30 years
  • Banyan tree --  300 years
  • Crocodile -- 60 years
Organisms habitat, its internal physiology.
Responsible for how it reduces.

Reproduction --

  • Sexual / 2 parents, gametes formation - gametes fusion.
  • Asexual / 1 parents, with / without gametes formation.

Asexual reproduction /-

Common among unicellular organisms and in plants and animal with simple organisms.

  • Offsprings are known as clones (morphology and genetically similar).
Binary fission :-  Amoeba, Paramecium.
Budding :-    Yeast.

  1. In fungi and similar plants a sexual reproduction structure at present.
Zoospores :-
Most common , Motile. Eg, Chlamydomonas.

  • Conidia :-. Penicillium
  • Buds : Hydra
  • Gemmules : Sponges
For Animals ;- asexual reproduction.
For plants ; Vegetative reproduction.

Eyes : Potato
Rhizome :. Ginger, banana (from nodes of modified stem).
Bulbul : Agave
Leaf Buds  :-  Bryophyllum (from the margin of leaves).
Offsets :. Water hack in most in invasive weed of standing water.

  • Drives of O2 formation of water.
  • Causes death of fishes.
  • Was introduced in India because of its beautiful flower and shape of leaves.
  • Can propagate vegetatively at phenomenal rates.
In adverse, condition, organisms having simple organisation.
Eg. Alage & Fungi.

Sexual reproduction/-

                                        Elaborate, complex & slow process.
• diverse organisms --> Different greatly in external morphology internal structure Phisiology.

But show similar pattern when it comes to sexual of reproduction.

Birth -- (Juvenile) --> Organisms can produce (reproduction) -- (sensent phase) --> Death

Inter flowering period in plants that show flowering more than once in not a part of Juvenile phase, but nature phase.
  • Annual Plants /- (Full life cycle in at most one years).
  • Biennial plants/-. (Take more two years).
  • Perennial Plants :-  (live for more than 2 years ).  -- no clear distinct present here --> Unusual flowering phenomenon.

Bamboo Species /-  Flowers XI in life time after 50-100 years & then die.
Strobilanthus Kunthiana :-  flower Plant  once in 12 years. (Neelakurenji) --> Blue stretches in Kerala.
Karnataka & Tamil Nadu.
